Have you ever felt like there's something really off with your hair, but you just can't seem to identify what it is? We have, so we consulted with Bumble and bumble senior hairstylist Damian Santiago, who graciously laid out our hairstyling errors. We confess, it stings for a moment, but you will thank us later. Here, Damian's list of our most common hair mistakes.
Baselessly cutting your own hair. Let's say there appears to be one strange and straggly piece that somehow emerges longer, looser or odder than any other piece on your head. You are tempted to trim it, but don't self-cut! "It'll all straighten out in the shower," Santiago says. And, if you don't have time for a shower, just dampen your hair, and evenly distribute a bit of styling pomade. Once you start cutting, it's hard to stop and impossible to keep your style even.
Erroneously misusing products. Damian calls this "product abuse" and explains that, because it's often so difficult to decipher the language on many products' labels, there is no mystery behind our confusion. With promises like "de-frizz," "smooth out," "keep it sleek" or "make it shine," we consumers are left totally befuddled. The result of using the wrong products can be limp, greasy-looking hair or hair that just won't stay in place. The only way to get around it is to resign yourself to tons of trial and error purchases, or ask your hairstylist for recommendations. Professionals will be able to tell you which products are right for the results you want and for your specific hair type.
Misguidedly generous with products. Another product no-no that can lead to flat, dead-looking hair is applying too much product. Remember, unless stated otherwise, most hair products are concentrated, so a little goes a long way. (Even shampoo!) Never forget you can always add more later.
Faulty compartmentalizing. You just see the front section of your hair, but never forget the world sees all of it. Too many of us spend too much time getting the hair around our faces perfect, to the detriment of our overall look. If this is your "hair-or," you're in good company. Damian says when he's done with a cut and offers to show clients the sides and back of their hair, many of them say, "No, that's okay, I never look back there anyway." Need we say more?
Mistakenly choosing an impractical style. Before you choose a hairstyle, understand this: After you walk out of the salon, it's up to you to maintain that style. "A good hairstylist can replicate any style you throw at him," says Damian, "but is it realistic for you?" Before selecting a style, he says, take into account your hair's texture, length and health and how much time you want to spend styling it each day. "If you're not realistic before you get a haircut, you'll end up being a slave to your hairstylist."
Breezily tuning out when going for a consultation or haircut. You've heard before that you must bring pictures and communicate clearly to your hairstylist, but you must also pay attention to what your hair stylist says. In order for a hairstylist to do the best job, you must be open to his expertise. If you don't trust your stylist, find another one.
Miscalculating your color choice. Even though all hair colors are beautiful, they may not appear beautiful on you. So, when coloring or highlighting your hair, carefully consider which shades will flatter your skin tone. It can be the difference between appearing totally ashen or radiant and glowing. Bring a photo of the color you want to your colorist and discuss the tones and hues of the shade and how it will look on you.
Inaccurately letting your eyebrows clash with your hair color. Brow color looks best when it complements hair color, and as a general benchmark, brows should be about a half to a full shade lighter than the darkest part of your hair.
2a parte: Short Hair vs. Long: What's Right for You?

Never sure whether to crop your hair or grow it out? Marie Claire helps you decide on your best look based on everything from your facial features to your lifestyle. Then, check out the stars who've gone from ho-hum to H-O-T with a simple change of hairstyle.

Have small features. "Anyone with a petite mouth and nose looks great with short hair," says Sally Hershberger, who famously took Meg Ryan short. That said, those secure enough to call attention to their less-than-perfect ears or nose can also pull it off. "Flaunting a quirk is very modern," says Oribe, Jennifer Lopez's mane man. Don't mind maintenance. If your hair grows more than half an inch a month, you could end up in the stylist's seat as often as every four weeks to maintain your short look, says Oscar Blandi, who once cropped Katie Holmes's hair. Short hair also requires extra work on a daily basis, explains Oribe. "You need to be willing to 'do' your do every morning." Want to project confidence. "After a big haircut, most women get an entirely new attitude. It's empowering to get rid of all that hair. It's like finally putting away the security blanket," says Laurent D., the man responsible for shearing Sharon Stone. Want a "look." While long hair is like black clothing -- it's nice, but others forget about it the day after you've worn it -- short hair is more like a red dress: a style statement that gets you noticed and remembered. Like to play. "If you like to change your color and texture often, short hair's a great option, since you can just cut off the damaged portions as it grows," notes Hershberger. 3a parte: Maintain that style

4ta parte: which shades will flatter your skin tone
Dilemma of the Week: How do I choose the right hair color?
What's the best way to choose what shade to color my hair?
When you are on a quest for the perfect hair color, there are two things you must take into consideration: the type of color that is best for your hair and the shade that will best complement your skin tone.
The two main types of hair color are permanent and semi-permanent. Permanent color is the only color that can cover gray. If your hair is more than 30 percent gray and your primary motivation for coloring it is to cover the gray, permanent color is your best option. Many people shy away from permanent color because they are afraid it will cause serious damage to their hair. But with the improved formulations most products have today, this is very unlikely. In fact, permanent color can actually make gray hair less wiry. When you color you hair, keep in mind that you need to consider maintenance, which can involve time and money. Ask your colorist to explain the steps that will be required to upkeep your color.
5ta parte: Top 10 bad hair day fixes
"Help! I'm having a bad hair day!"
How 10 iVillagers get great looking hair every day!
No matter what your hair challenge, whether it be frizzies, split ends, getting curls or an updo that will stay, we've got the solution just for you!
1. Curing Coarse, curly hair:
"I have huge, dry, curly hair and the only thing that works for me is Redken All-Soft. I guarantee after you use it for a week, you will notice a huge difference. I also put a dollop of Alterna Hemp Seed Straightener in afterwards. It doesn't straighten my curly hair, but it relaxes the curl a little and makes it softer." -- perry2001, Haircare: Coarse board.
2. Taming coarse, frizzy hair:
"I have curly hair which I usually straighten because it is easier to style straight. I think I've tried all the products out there for coarse, frizzy, and dry hair! It's a fun battle especially in the summer months with all the heat and humidity. Some days I just want to get a wig!" "But here's what I've found that works. For styling coarse hair that in layers, try the pomades and balms they have out now. They usually come in a heavy and light consistency. The heavy ones are like a wax and usually come in a tin and the lighter ones have more of a liquid consistency. Of the heavier ones, I've tried John Frieda Shaping and Glossing Balm (not too expensive) and TIGI Bed Head A Hair Stick for Cool People (a little more pricey but good). I know it's a weird name, but it helps me with taming some of my frizz and holding the style a bit. It comes in a silver metal stick with a brown label! Of the lighter ones, I've tried are Nexxus Transforming Pomade and Paul Mitchell Foaming Pomade. I've found them all at my local beauty discount store but almost all the haircare lines carry some sort of similiar product." -- heartandsoul678 , Haircare: Coarse board.
3. Coarse hair help:
"To help bad hair days for coarse hair, have you ever tried a hot oil treatment? That might help. It did me when I had hair like that. I still have very thick hair and it is also very coarse and I still do that about once a month." -- cl-tiggerbabie98, Haircare: Coarse board.

4. Tangles in fine hair:
"I have such fine hair I use baby hair clips. I've used a natural bristle brush on my hair. Besides not getting all the tangles out, I just plain hated using it. Then I switched to a brush with few bristles and lots of holes (the kind you blow dry with). I still had huge hair problems. Then I made a change that made all the difference to my poor hair. I vowed to never brush it while wet. Brushes and combs never come near my hair after a shower. This has made my hair a lot healthier and more manageable. However, I have also had to come up with a few hairstyles that work if all you've done is towel dry your hair. If you blow-dry, may I suggest finger combing gently until it is mostly dry. Fine hair such as ours just doesn't handle abuse well!" -- dargon2, Haircare: Fine board.
Some swear by volumizing shampoo to pump up their fine locks, too.
5. Repair highlighting damage:
"I had a really bad highlighting experience (had to bleach, and then redye and then highlight!!) which left me with horrible split ends and damaged hair. The salon gave me a bottle of Aveda Curessence Repair treatment, which I applied once a week for 10 minutes, and in only three weeks I noticed a monumental difference!! Split ends are a lost cause, you can never fully repair a split, but you can protect the hair above the split so that the split doesn't grow and migrate up the hair shaft. This cream repairs your hair from the inside, providing it with amino acids to strengthen and moisturize. And the best part is that it doesn't weigh down your hair. I treat mine on Saturday nights before I go out to the bar, and don't have to worry about flat head. I wouldn't recommend anything else!" -- keepnitfun, Haircare: Fine board.
6. Split end help:
"When relaxing or otherwise chemically treating hair, split ends can sometimes result. Unfortunately, there is no product that can 'fix' split ends. The only way to get rid of them is to cut them off. Are you getting all of your hair relaxed every 6-8 weeks, or just the roots? If you ae getting your whole head done every time, maybe try getting just the roots done to prevent the relaxer from damaging the rest of your hair so much. Wash with a super moisturizing shampoo, a good rich conditioner, and use a hair mask once a week at least. My favorite line is Biolage. It's a little more expensive than drugstore shampoo but it's great. Well worth the extra cost. Also, don't blow dry or curl hair unless you absolutely have to!" -- cl-jenil429, Chemical Processing board.
7. Updo tips:
"Here are a couple of ideas which can be manipulated into your personal style and can be a big help on those bad hair days! One is the ever-easy chignon: simply take your hair, pull back into a pony tail, secure with rubber band. Take the pony tail hair and twist it. Leave one to two inches of the ends untwisted. Secure the twisted hair to the back of your head with a funky clip or pins--they will be hidden by the one or two inches you left untwisted. At this point you can curl the tip of the hair or scrunch it to give it a messy look. You can add light glitter to the ends or the sides and emblish with pins if you need a fancy look.""Another simple look is the bun. Pull your hair into a high pony tail. Secure with a rubber band. Twist your hair into a bun shape and secure that with bobby pins if needed. The fun part is next. You can pull strands out of the bun. You can curl these strands, leave them straight, scrunch them, whatever suits you. Again, embellish your bun or the strands. You can use glitter, pins, or tiny flowers. If you just want elegant, put a large but soft flower that matches your dress into the center of your bun. Preferably it should be silk and should be somewhat flat and only as big as the center of your bun otherwise your whole bun will look like a flower (nobody gets to see your pretty hair)." -- waytolong, Hairstyle Ideas board.
Hair accessories are another fun option to banishing bad hair days!
8. Gray hair:
"Problems with gray hair? Unfortunately gray hair is more porous than hair with color still to it. The color you are putting on it is making it wiry and unmanagable. You could try using an oil treatment once a week. I use olive oil and heat a quarter cup of the oil, massage into my hair and put on a shower cap and let sit for at least 30 minutes before I shampoo it out." -- liamsnana, Love My Gray board.

9. Using a diffuser:
"Sometimes using a diffuser can make all the difference! Simply place the diffuser on the end of the dryer, and blow dry your hair as usual. The point of a diffuser is to spread the air around a bigger area of your hair so it's not so concentrated all on one spot. If you have curly hair try scrunching it when you use the diffuser, it will make your curls really springy and they won't be fuzzy like they can be with a regular blow dryer." -- cl-jenil429M,

10. Getting curls
"If you're going for curl, rollers will definitely hold longer than a curling iron curl. The only problem is the hair has to be rolled wet and they take a long time to dry without a dryer (like in a salon)." -- kristy2379

A MÍ ME SALIÓ ESTE:

The results are in! Your hairstyle personality is...
Touchable and Inviting
Like
Julia Roberts, Liv Tyler and Charlize Theron, you’re warm, adorable and sexy. As the center of attention, you seem to constantly draw people in. You can be girly and primp for hours, but can just as easily hit the town with towel-dried hair and some lip gloss. As long as you're having a good time, you know you look beautiful.
When it comes to your hair, you care more about its condition than it's style. The reason your hair always looks stylish is because you are always caring for it -- with
conditioning masks, frequent trims and products that soften, smooth and add body. You are happy to wear it up or down, straight or curly, short or long -- provided it's not overworked or damaged in the process.
